San Carlos Mom & Early Education Policy Expert
As a school board member, I apply both my experiences as a parent in San Carlos and my twenty years experience in early care and education to making sure all children have equitable opportunities for learning and growth in our community. Read on to learn more about me and why I'm running for reelection!
About Me
Our family has thrived during our educational journey in the San Carlos schools - a journey that began with preschool at Arundel and kindergarten at White Oaks. This year, my 11 and 13 year olds will both be at Central Middle School, and I want to contribute to the community that has nurtured our family. I am eager to build on my first nineteen months of public service as a school board trustee.

Two decades experience in the early care and education sector: I am excited to continue to apply my twenty years of experience as a nonprofit leader and public policy advocate in the early care and education sector to support young learners in San Carlos. I have dedicated my career to improving education opportunities for children because I know how powerful high-quality early education can be in changing a child or a family’s life. As a school board trustee, I will work to ensure students have access to the highest quality public education, families are supported to thrive, and all school staff are valued.

My current professional work: I am the Coordinator for the San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council at the San Mateo County Office of Education. The Child Care Partnership Council, a local planning council for early care and education, advises the County Superintendent of Schools and County Board of Supervisors. In this role, I use my experience and background in:
-
Developing public policy and financing strategies,
-
Using data and needs assessments, and
-
Advocating for community-driven solutions.
My earlier work experiences: I began my career at the Child Care Coordinating Council (4Cs), San Mateo County’s childcare resource and referral agency, where I progressed over several years to ultimately serve as the Executive Director. While at 4Cs, I oversaw an annual budget of over $10 million and was responsible for setting strategic direction during the Great Recession. After leaving 4Cs, I worked as a strategy and communications consultant for organizations such as First 5 San Mateo County and Izzi Early Education, our local Head Start provider. My most recent consulting project, prior to joining the San Mateo County Office of Education, was to help with the founding of Build Up – an initiative that has tackled the shortage of early learning and care facilities in San Mateo County and helped to develop more than 2,300 new child care spaces.

If reelected to the school board, I'll continue to use my background and experience in education policy, financing, and advocacy to support schools that nurture and inspire every child in our community.

In my free time, I love to travel, get outdoors, swim, and spend time with family and friends.
